01The problem

Your next great find is buried under this.

Every Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji search comes with the same eight kinds of clutter piled on top. You’ve met all of them.

  1. 01

The couch you opened on Monday, still there on Friday.

    Already viewed
  2. 02

    Ads dressed up as listings.

  3. 03

    A recliner for $1. It’s not $1.

  4. 04

Sold three weeks ago. Still on your Saved page.

  5. 05

A 25 km radius that somehow reaches Whitby.

    41 km away
  6. 06

    “E-transfer a deposit and it’s yours.” It isn’t.

    Check this: deposit first
  7. 07

A 25% price drop nobody told you about.

    ↓ 25%
  8. 08

A “private seller” with 40 Civics on the lot.

    Dealer listing

Sift hides six of these and flags the other two, right on the pages you already use.

02Filters

Fig. 2

The Marketplace filters Facebook never gave you.

Sift lifts the clutter off the page as it loads, and real listings slide up to fill the gap. Changed your mind? Click the pill and every hidden listing comes back, with the reason it went.

03Deals and scams

Figs. 3–5

Steal or scam, you’ll know before you message.

Every listing gets a fair-price verdict and a scan for the lines scammers lean on: deposit first, gift cards, “text me at”. It all shows on the photo, before you’ve typed a word.

Fig. 3Road bikes in Toronto, typical CA$900. Message the CA$650 Allez. Skip the CA$300 carbon.
  • See the steal at a glance.

Every listing is marked below, at or above the going rate on the page, so the deal jumps out.

  • Catch the scam script.

Deposit first, gift cards, Zelle, “text me on WhatsApp”, the seller who’s suddenly “moving out of the country”, a price under half the going rate. Sift flags each one on the photo.

  • Trust the good ones faster.

One owner, a receipt, the original box, service records, a clean Carfax, warranty left: each one gets a green chip.

  • Price-check anything in one click.

See what it sold for on eBay last month. Run the photo through Google Lens to catch a stolen picture. Check the price new on Google Shopping. Or run the same search on Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace, no retyping.

Open any listing and Sift’s verdict is already waiting in the corner.

Fig. 5The panel on the listing page. It reads every line, so nothing hides in paragraph four.

04Price drops

Figs. 6–7

See every price drop, and the lowest it’s been.

Sift remembers every price it sees. When one falls, a badge lands on the photo with the percentage off. Hover for the dated history, then open your offer with a number the seller has already listed at.

Fig. 6Mid-century teak sideboard. Down CA$200 in under three weeks, then back up CA$50. Without Sift, you’d have missed both.
  1. Today’s price, and the drop from the highest one Sift has seen.

  2. Every change, dated. Sneaky rises too.

  3. When Sift first saw it, and the lowest it’s been.

  • ↓ 25%

The drop from the highest price Sift has seen.

  • Reposted

Same item, new listing, old price on file.

  • NEW

    New since you last looked.

  • 3h2d1w

    How long it’s been up.

  • 12 km

    How far you’d drive.

Tiny badges in the corner of the photo. Your eye goes straight to the deal.

The relist trick stops working.

Sellers delete and relist to look fresh and jump back to the top. Sift spots the repost and shows when it first went up, and for how much.

Fig. 7Relisted six weeks later at CA$380. Sift still remembers the CA$450 it started at.

05Alerts

Fig. 8

Be the first “Is this still available?” they get.

Save a search and Sift checks it every 15 minutes, even with the tab closed. You get a ping for each new listing that passes your filters, and silence for the rest.

  • 10

searches watched at once, on Marketplace or Kijiji.

  • 15

    minutes between checks.

  • 0

pings for listings you’ve filtered out.

  • Quiet hours, so nothing buzzes at 3 a.m.

Fig. 8Three new dining tables, already filtered, while everyone else is still refreshing.

06Distance

Fig. 9

25 km means 25 km.

Facebook Marketplace treats your radius as a suggestion. Sift measures from your front door and cuts everything past the line, so no “deal” turns into an hour on the 401. Pick from 2,000+ cities in 45 countries, or use your location once.

Miles work too.

Fig. 925 km from east Toronto. Whitby is 41 km out, so its wingback chair never makes the cut.

07Used cars

Fig. 10

Find the clean used car before someone else test-drives it.

Set your years and max mileage. Salvage, rebuilt and flood titles disappear, and so does the “private seller” with a lot full of Civics. One owner, service records and a clean Carfax get a green chip.

Fig. 10Six Civics in, two worth a test drive. The other four never reach your screen.

08The extras

Nine more ways to get to the deal first.

You won’t need these on day one. By week two, you won’t shop without them.

  • Kijiji, too

Every filter works on Kijiji too, and Top Ads disappear like sponsored posts.

  • Fresh only

Hit “New only” and everything you’ve already scrolled past is gone. Or set a cut-off, like nothing older than a week.

  • Free, as in $0

Show only the free stuff, without the “message for price” bait.

  • Starter packs

Six ready-made block lists, from rentals to dropshippers. One click and that whole category’s gone.

  • Presets

Save a setup for each hunt, like Bike hunt or Furniture under 200, and switch in one click.

  • Newest first

Searches open newest first. You’ll forget the sort menu exists.

  • Focus mode

Open Facebook, land on Marketplace. Reels and the feed get skipped, on a schedule if you like, with a hard lock for weak moments.

  • Keyboard shortcuts

Press h over a listing to hide it, and Esc to close the peek. Changed your mind? Undo hangs around for 6 seconds.

  • 20+ languages

French, Hindi, Korean, Polish and 17 more, right down to the chips on each listing.

09Set-up

11FAQ

Straight answers.

Is Sift really free?

Yes. Every feature on this page is free: no account, no card, no trial. Sift Pro will add extras on top, and nothing here moves behind a paywall.

Could Facebook ban me for using it?

Sift only changes what you see, in your own browser, the way an ad blocker does. It never posts, messages, likes or buys anything for you, and alerts check no faster than someone hitting refresh.

Can Sift see my messages?

No. Sift reads listings and nothing else. Your messages and profile are off-limits, and nothing ever leaves your browser.

Will it mess up Facebook?

No. It only touches listings. Messages, groups and profiles stay exactly as they are, and one switch puts the page back the way it was.

When can I get it?

Very soon. Sift is in its final round of testing, and the button up top goes live the day it reaches the Chrome Web Store. Bookmark this page so you’re first in line.

Which sites and browsers does it work on?

On Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji, in Chrome, Edge or Brave on your computer. Set-up takes under a minute.

What if it hides something I wanted?

Click the pill. Everything Sift hid comes back with the reason it went, so you can loosen the right filter in a second.

How does it know a good deal?

It compares each listing with the others on the page and remembers every price it has seen. Want a second opinion? eBay sold prices are one click away.

Does it work where I live?

Almost certainly. Sift knows 2,000+ cities in 45 countries. Pick yours, or let it find you once and skip the typing.

Free No account Chrome, Edge and Brave

A 48-second product demo. Sift clears seven listings you would skip from a Marketplace search with one switch, then shows a teak sideboard’s price falling from CA$600 to CA$450, marks a road bike on Kijiji as below the typical price, sends an alert about three new dining tables, keeps a search inside 25 km of home, flags a turntable seller who wants a deposit first, clears four Civics that don’t fit, and catches a repost, a $1 price and a Kijiji Top Ad. No account, no trackers, free. It ends on “The smarter way to shop local.” Coming soon to Chrome.
